How
long has Roberts Sales been renting and selling campers?
Over
40 years. We
started renting and selling Starcraft campers in 1969 as Southwest Rentals.
In 1978 we divided the two areas of Southwest Rentals (tool &
construction equipment rentals and camping trailers) into two
companies. Southwest Rentals remained our tool and equipment rental company and Roberts Sales focused on camping trailer sales and rentals.
Our brochures say
"Since 1969" because that's when our family started
renting and selling pop-ups even though the entity "Roberts Sales" was created in 1978. |
|
Are
the campers made in Flagstaff, Arizona?
No,
Flagstaff is the brand name and is made by Forest River. Forest River builds the campers
in Millersburg, Indiana.
|
|
Flagstaff
also has travel trailers and fifth wheels available - do you carry
those?
Sorry,
we don't. Frankly, we don't have space on our small lot to
carry hard-side trailers. Focusing on fold-down trailers
allows us to specialize in that area and provide our guests with the
best possible experience when looking for a fold-down. For
Flagstaff travel trailers and fifth wheels, please check Forest
River's dealer
locator.
Flagstaff
campers look a lot like Rockwood campers--are they built by the same
people? Yes,
in the same factory with the same parts even! Forest River
uses different colors in the tent, flooring, fabrics, and counters
to differentiate the two lines (apart from the nameplate, of course)
but the floorplans and features are the same for the two
brands. For every Flagstaff model there will be a
corresponding Rockwood with the same floorplan (the model number
will be slightly different, though). |
|
Is
there a difference between a "fold-down trailer" and a
"pop-up trailer"?
No, the
terms are used interchangeably along with "camping
trailer" and "tent trailer." Although, "pop-up camper"
sometimes describes a soft-sided truck camper (a
"cab-over" that
sits in the truck bed).
|
|
How
heavy are Flagstaff fold-downs?
The line
ranges from 1347 lbs. (176LTD) to 3676 lbs. (HW31SCTH).
|
|
Will
a car with a 4-cylinder engine pull the campers?
We have
had 4-cylinder cars and trucks pull the 8' campers (176LTD
& 176ED) and the lightest 10' camper (206LTD), but they
probably weren't the fastest ones up the mountain. Please call
if you would like to test drive (test pull) a camper to see how
your vehicle handles the load.

|
What's
the difference between a MAC and Classic?
The
Classic line has many deluxe features such as 5" innerspring
mattresses, a larger 2.5 cu. ft. fridge, powered-roof-lift, and more lights and
accessories. For a detailed list between the two (and the LTD,
BR, & High-Wall series), please see the comparison page.
What
does "EM" stand for in the camper description, as in
"em 2010"? "EM"
stands for "early model" and indicates a camper that was
built with the previous year's specifications and color schemes, but
then titled as the next year's model year. For example, the EM
'10 176ED has the same floor-plan and color scheme as the '09 176ED,
but it arrived on our lot after the 2009 model year had ended.
Therefore, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the
two without looking at the title or serial number. Why
is this important?
|
|
Is
hot water available for all Flagstaff models?
Hot
water systems are standard on all Classic
models. Hot water is a factory-installed option on many MAC
campers. Roberts Sales can also add hot water to most MAC
camper at our shop (see Options
for more information).
|
|
Is
a lift kit available for both the MAC and Classic?
Yes,
please see our Options page (raise frame
section).
|
|
Do
all Flagstaffs have brakes?
As
of 2010, all Flagstaff campers (except the 176LTD and 206LTD) come with
electric brakes from the factory. Roberts Sales can add
brakes to the LTD campers at our store.
See Options, brake
option.
|
|
How
long does it take to set up the camper?
About
10 - 20 minutes, depending on the floor plan, the camp site, and
whether or not it's raining!
|
|
How
much weight do the beds hold?
The
factory says 1,000
lbs. each. To be conservative, we say 900. ; )
|
|
I
prefer an ice box to a fridge - can I still get one?
Yes.
All new Roberts Sales campers come standard with a 3-way refrigerator,
but we can order an ice box for you if you prefer.

shower/cassette toilet campers.
|
|
What
type of roof does Flagstaff use?
A
one-piece Fiberglass vacuum bonded radius roof with no center
seam. Steel air conditioner reinforcing is laminated into the
roof (so no bars are visible on the ceiling).
|
|
What
is a "Group 27 Battery Pack?"
"Group
27" refers to the physical size and the amp-hour rating of the
battery. The factory uses a Group 24 battery with a capacity
of approximately 90 amp-hours (one ceiling light on for one hour
draws one "amp hour"; the heater draws 2.5 amps).
The Group 27 battery we install at our shop is physically a little
bigger and has a capacity of 105 amp-hours. In our opinion
more power is better.
Will
the roof hold a boat?
That
depends on the weight of the boat: the roof--with a rack installed--will hold 250
lbs.
|
|
Is
there an alternative to the roof-mounted bike rack?
Yes,
we offer a rear
receiver that accommodates a hitch-mounted bike rack. We
will have you sign a piece of paper, though, indicating you
understand the dangers associated with loading too much weight on
said rear receiver...
